Mama Bhullar's Post-Pregnancy Exercise Regime

My progress on the road to reclaiming my identity. Target: 5-8 kilo loss in 10 weeks.

I started exercising as soon as I felt ready: 5 weeks after giving birth.

I found running to be a struggle early on so had to revert to less-strenuous cardio after week 3 until I was ready again (which was in week 5).

This is how I did it.

Week 1:
1 brisk 30 minute walk (2k), 2 1.5km outdoor runs, 1 45minute CV gym session

Week 2:
2 3km outdoor runs

Week 3:
2 brisk 30 minute walks (2k each), 1 55minute CV gym session, 1 3km run, 1 1.5hr walk (5km)

Week 4:
1 1hr brisk walk (5km), 1 walk to sentrum (6km), 1 walk to sentrum and back (12km), 1 bodycombat session, 1 circuit training session

Week 5:
1 1hr brisk walk (4.4km), 1 1hr brisk walk (5.3km), 1 1hr brisk walk (5.3km), 1 55min CV gym session (20min run, 20 min x-train, 15min cycle), 1 40min CV gym session (20min run, 20min x-trainer)

Week 6:
2 circuit training sessions, 1 brisk walk (6km), 1 30minute run on the treadmill (4.3km), 1 30minute outdoor run (4.5km),

Week 7:
1 6km outdoor run (up both hills!), 1 8.5km brisk walk, 1 4.5km outdoor run (up the big hill), 1 6km outdoor run up those hills again!

Week 8:
1 5km brisk walk, 1 45min yoga session, 1 1hr yoga session, 1 7km run (in the sun), 1 4km brisk walk, 1 1.5hr yoga session, 1 8km run

Week 9:
1 4.3km run (29minutes), 1 4.3km run, 1 1.5hr yoga session

Week 10:
1 6km brisk walk, 1 3km brisk walk, 1 1.5hr yoga session, 1 12km walk, 1 30minute yoga session

Results:
Weight loss: 5kg       Longest non-stop run: 8km       Fastest run: 4.3km in 29 minutes       Feel: Sensational!

Everyone has different capabilities. Everyone has different circumstances. I had to change my regime every week to meet Udham's demands and time commitment. But I got there in the end!

Udham Nikolai Singh Bhullar

Udham, our ray of sunshine was born on time on 3 March 2012. He is now 3 months old and growing into quite an active, expressionful little boy. He looks just like his daddy but is just like his mummy: impatient but smiley, frustrated and chatty. He seems to enjoy social interaction and gets along with most people - more women than men! He is sleeping pretty well, eating really well and playing lots. He likes his bathtime, is starting to like reading and loves getting out and about.

He is a pretty little boy with a big loud voice. His latest party-trick is to try and put both his hands in his mouth and he hasn't yet accepted that it's impossible. He can hold his neck pretty well and is starting to get stronger in his back. He has lots of hair and we've resorted to a Indian-style side partings and 80's mo-hawks to keep it out of his eyes.

Mummy and Daddy are learning the ropes well. Mummy has got the hang of motherhood. Daddy was always going to be a natural.

Life is bliss at Fort Bhullar with our el presidente keeping his staff super busy.

Baby Bhullar might look like this

Papa Bhullar as a baby...

and Mama Bhullar as a baby...

Baby Bhullar is likely to be a happy-go-lucky serious-with-attitude baby. An oxymoron if ever there was one.

The baby seems het up on staying put in the warmth of the womb. The boinging around makes us think that this baby will be a toughy. And although we are strongly encouraging the baby to arrive ahead of schedule, we know that it will decide when it's ready. As new parents, we are learning quite early that we have no way of getting a child to do what its told (without bribery of course).

10 days until the due date. Parents are excited to meet you darling baby - please enter our world soon.
